Aphex Start Discussion List

The Aphex Start Discussion List (ASDL) is available for everyone interested in discussing Aphex Twin on a mailing list. The original goal was to have it devoted entirely to Aphex Twin and have no off-topic discussion. That will never happen. There usually is not enough going on in the realm of Aphex Twin to discuss around the clock. Therefore, the list members are quite fond of talking about anything that strikes their fancy. It is very chaotic at times, but at least you'll be in the company of Aphex Twin fans. That's good company, right?

  • To subscribe to the list, simply send a message to aphex-list-request@aphextwin.org with the word "subscribe" somewhere in the subject of the message (without the quotes).
  • To unsubscribe from the list, simply send a message to aphex-list-request@aphextwin.org with the word "unsubscribe" somewhere in the subject of the message (without the quotes).
  • To discuss, send a message to aphex-list@aphextwin.org and everyone on the list will read it (or delete it, but they will get it).
The list automatically puts "[asdl]" in the subject of every message sent to the list (there's no need to do it yourself), so you can filter the messages from the list based on either the "To" field being aphex-list@aphextwin.org or the subject containing "[asdl]."

Make sure that when you intend to reply to the group, you use the "Reply To All" or "Reply To Group" feature of your mail client. Otherwise, the message you reply with will only be sent to the sender of the original message. Conversely, make sure you use "Reply" or "Reply To Sender" when you intend for only one person (the sender) to read your message.

PLEASE NOTE: Posts to the mailing list containing attachments or enriched text are not accepted on this mailing list. Please submit your posts as plain text documents.

The reason for this restriction is that not all mail clients support HTML or enriched text of all kinds, and nothing is to be gained from text markup and formatting that cannot be expressed with plain text. Besides that, most HTML posts contain the exact same message encoded in plain text, which more than doubles the size of the original message!

As far as attachments are concerned, if you have a file to share, feel free to put it on the World Wide Web or set up an FTP server to allow others to access it. If you feel the need to email it directly to anyone, please do so privately. The entire list does not need your file. If they want it, they will contact you after you let them know about it. Please be considerate of others' bandwidth.
