Windowlicker makes appearance in High Fidelity
| 2000.10.11
|
I don't know if this is old news or not, but it seems that MTV 2 has been using clips from Come to Daddy in the breaks between videos. So far, I've heard Come to Daddy - Pappy Mix and Flim. I don't know if there's more. Thought that may be of some interest.

Windowlicker makes appearance in High Fidelity
| 2000.10.07
|
The latest H.R.Giger diary by Taschen has a couple of drawings by Giger based on the really ugly Aphex Twin face from "The Window Lickers", and the compositions are called The Windowlickers I and The Windowlickers II.
H.R.Giger is a famous Swiss Surrealist who designed the alien monsters and architecture in the film Alien, who Chris Halls/Cunningham had to help rip off for Alien Resurrection and Alien 3
I've put the images up on one of my websites for only for a while.

Windowlicker makes appearance in High Fidelity
| 2000.10.06
|
Last night I rented a DVD copy of the movie "High Fidelity" starring John Cusack. In the deleted scenes section, the second one is entitled Theives. It shows two kids entering the main characters record store and buying a big beautiful copy of the 'Windowlicker' record in plain view.

Flex does not disappoint
| 2000.10.06
|
Just been to see "flex" at the Apocalypse exhibition in London, which, as you will know, is a short film by Chris Cunningham with music provided by the Aphex Twin.
The exhibition's theme is 'Beauty and Horror in Contemporary Art', and 'flex' definitely errs on the side of horror, although Cunningham's imagery is as sublime as ever. RDJ provides the sound track, in a sort of cinematographic style reminiscent of all the 'difficult' bits from SAW II; a series of deep ominous rumbles, electric buzzes and percussive assaults which does, in fact, eventually merge into track 4 from CD 1 of SAW II.
If you're into Chris Cunningham's darker work you will like this. It is scarier and more surreal than anything else of his that I have seen, and yet again he seems able to put unfilmable visions onto film and make them work. If you're looking for new music from Aphex, you'll be disappointed. But what is striking is how closely the soundtrack and visuals are matched - every noise is a reaction to a visual theme, and even the 'real' sound effects from the film have been Aphexised, to sickening effect. They must of worked very closely on this, and the result is a very powerful audio-visual unity. If they really are going to make that Neuromancer film, this bodes very well.

Smashing Pumpkins tribute album smells fishy
| 2000.08.21
|
All evidence seems to deny the previously reported rumour of an Aphex Twin
Smashing Pumpkins cover track. No further information will be posted without
concrete evidence. That's why I hate posting rumours. Ah well, they're still
fun.

Fresh squeezed Jarvis Cocker pulp
| 2000.08.21
|
Does anyone know for sure one way or the other if the Jarvis Cocker that directed
the "On" video is the same character who heads the British rock group Pulp? Someone
recently asked me, and I thought I had heard that somewhere. I'm not quite sure.

Aphex Start Discussion List down
| 2000.08.20
|
I almost forgot! The Aphex Start Discussion List is temporarily down for construction
and renovation. I apologize profusely, and hopefully it will be back up and running
very soon. There has been a server switch and things are a little odd around here.
I have to assess my situation and get oriented. I'm still slightly tired from the
trip.
Many of you couldn't help but notice the popup window that was on this page for a few
days. It's gone now but you can still see it if you wish.
It was confusing to some, hilarious to others, but most importantly, it got people
thinking. Should trading music be illegal? Is it downright evil? Who should decide
one way or the other? I wish I could remember where I got that image from. If anyone
knows, please let me know. In the mean time, check
out Music Fans United to
voice your opinion.

Possible New Aphex Twin Track
| 2000.08.03
|
Superargo says that the
iMusic mailing list reports of an upcoming
Smashing Pumpkins tribute album that will include an Aphex Twin track! This is the
first I've heard of anything like it. The imusic.com mailing list reports:
As Chicago pop band The Smashing Pumpkins prepare to bow out of the music
scene with one last tour of the major cities this fall, imusic.com has learned of
a compilation tribute album set to be released next year, possibly in mid-Spring.
Such luminaries as Depeche Mode, Simon Le Bon, PJ Harvey and even R&B diva Missy
Elliot are set to record tracks in upcoming months in homage to the Pumpkins,
who recently announced that they would split at the years end. The expected
tracklisting is as follows:
- 1979: New Order
- Love: Filter
- Bullet With Butterfly Wings: Placebo
- 33: R.E.M.
- Crestfallen: The Human League
- The Everlasting Gaze (instrumental interpretation): The Aphex Twin
- Beautiful: Missy Elliot
- Tonight, Tonight: PJ Harvey
- Take Me Down: Ric Ocasek
- Ugly: Chris Cornell
- Luna: Tricky feat. Beth Gibbons
- Sweet,Sweet: Robert Smith
- Tristessa: Nick Cave feat. Orbital
- Perfect: Johnny Marr & Simon Le Bon
- With Every Light: Depeche Mode
This album will of course be in addition to the next Pumpkin's LP, the follow
up to this year's MACHINA/the machines of God, which the band are currently
finishing off in a Chicago recording studio. It is not yet known what label the
tribute CD will be distributed under.

New Version Of Discography
| 2000.07.17
|
"Revision 7 of the Aphex Twin discography at Warp-Net was never put up,"
explains Christopher Miller,
"even though I finished and submitted it in '98/'99. I completed revision
#8 last month and submitted it to Warp, but they still haven't put it up
for some reason or another. Anyway, I've put it up temporarily onto my own.
Check it out."
